About Redwise

Redwise is a leading specialist Ship Delivery, Crewing, Deep Sea Pilotage and Offshore VTS

We deliver

Redwise is a leading specialist in maritime services. Our roots date back to 1906, beginning with the worldwide delivery of ships under their own power, known as ship delivery. Redwise has built and maintained a reputation for reliable maritime services in Ship Delivery, Crewing, DCP services and Chartering. Our promise is that we deliver.

Quality Maritime Services

We take pride in our ability to successfully complete complex projects. Redwise delivers dozens of ships annually under their own power, ranging from tugs and fishing vessels to large crude oil tankers and ferries. Redwise is the most experienced and leading specialist globally.

More than 100 years ago, it all started as a ship delivery company. Later a second specialization evolved: the deployment of specialized maritime personnel. Redwise provides full crew management services and deploys personnel both individually and in teams. The majority of our Dutch officers are permanently employed, ensuring continuous service quality. In 2018, Redwise acquired the deep-sea pilot services and VTS services from Royal Dirkzwager, further expanding our specialized maritime services. In 2021, Redwise officially became a shipping company after purchasing the research vessel "Arctic," which is primarily used by our clients for seabed research.

At Redwise, we are known not only for our specific and specialized services but also for our personal approach. Our mission is to take good care of all stakeholders: clients, employees, suppliers and the environment. With over a century of experience and constant anticipation of changes within the maritime sector, Redwise remains committed to delivering high-quality maritime services. We aim to be a market leader in the niche markets in which we operate.

A Rich History

The history of Redwise dates back to 1906 when the first voyage laid the foundation for a century of innovation and growth. Starting with ship delivery, Redwise has grown into a leading maritime service provider with various specialized niche expertise.

The Beginning

We look back on a long history that began on October 13, 1906. On that day, the steam tug "MOP 222B" with a five-person crew departed from the Netherlands to Argentina, a journey of 6,500 miles. The ship arrived on January 14, 1907. Due to limited bunker capacity, the MOP 222B was equipped with two masts and a bowsprit for this journey. The propeller and chimney were dismantled and temporarily lashed on deck. This first delivery voyage was thus sailed, with the boiler being used for drinking water storage.

Five years later, Bureau Wijsmuller was founded. With his company, Joh. F. Wijsmuller focused on ship delivery and transport. Two years later, he bought his first tugboat: Holland.

Rederij Gebr. Wijsmuller

In 1939, the sons of the late J. F. Wijsmuller jointly conducted their first trip to Bangkok: the Sandon I. This marked the beginning of Rederij Gebr. Wijsmuller, which was officially founded in 1948. Eighty years after the company's inception, in 1986, the crewing department was established.

In 1989, Rederij Gebr. Wijsmuller was the first company to receive a permit for the secondment of seafarers. In 2001, Wijsmuller, including Rederij Gebr. Wijsmuller, was acquired by the Danish company Svitzer, part of Moller Maersk.

Management buy-out

In 2003, four employees of Rederij Gebr. Wijsmuller agreed with Svitzer to buy out the company. The name Redwise, derived from the old telex answerback REWYS, was born. Redwise became an independent company in the maritime industry again.

In 2018, the deep-sea pilot and VTS services of Royal Dirkzwager were taken over, accelerating Redwise's growth. That same year, Redwise took a strategic interest in International Maritime Services (IMS), strengthening the market positions of both companies.

In 2021, Redwise purchased the research vessel Arctic. This made Redwise, in addition to being a specialist in ship delivery, crewing and DCP, also a ship owner. The vessel is mainly used by our clients for seabed research.

Responsible Business Practices

Redwise continuously evolves in the field of corporate social responsibility and environmental protection. It is important to us to conduct business responsibly and with respect for all involved, stakeholders and the environment. We reject objectionable practices such as discrimination, bribes, child labor, facilitation payments or other illegal transactions or activities. We believe in equal opportunities and fair treatment of our employees and hired personnel.

Since the founding of Redwise in 1906, we have taken innovative measures to minimize environmental impact. A significant contribution to this is reducing fuel consumption in the execution of assignments. This is done by supporting wind propulsion from the beginning, training and certifying our employees and working with low flashpoint fuels in combination with battery power. Since 2015, Redwise has delivered dozens of hybrid and battery-electric powered vessels. We have also delivered more than a dozen ships powered entirely or partially by LNG.

Redwise participates in the Maritime Masterplan to develop climate-neutral ships and has submitted a proposal to convert the Arctic into a 100% green and e-methanol powered vessel. In line with our vision of responsible business practices, we also invest in seemingly smaller measures. For instance, we insulated our office building, encourage our employees to cycle to work and our company cars are hybrid or fully electric.
