Deep Sea Pilot/Offshore VTS Operator

We also have our own research vessel, the ARCTIC, which is deployed as a charter ship for seabed research. Currently, we are looking to expand our team of Deep Sea Pilots and Offshore VTS Operators, and thus we are seeking you to join #TEAMREDWISE. As a Deep Sea Pilot, you advise the captain and the bridge team on safe navigation of the ship through some of the busiest seas in the world and communicate with local VTS and pilot stations. In addition to your duties as a Deep Sea Pilot, we also offer you the opportunity to be trained as an Offshore VTS Operator.

An Offshore VTS Operator ensures optimal and efficient handling of maritime traffic around a specific ship or platform in the offshore industry. You actively monitor traffic using radar, AIS, VHF, and other modern navigation equipment, and work closely with security vessels. You recognize potentially dangerous situations that may threaten the safety of the project and/or navigation and take action to minimize risks.

You are either a licensed Deep Sea Pilot or are willing to be trained to become one through our in-house training program (for more information about obtaining the license and the training program, click here). In order to be admitted to the training program you must be in possession of the certificate “Master of All Ships”, a bachelor degree and a certificate of conformity. Besides you have a minimum of 4 year experience as a captain. You are able to build a good relationship in a relatively short time with the bridge team.

In short, what it involves:

• Advising the captain and bridge team on the best navigation routes.
• Communicating with local VTS and pilot stations for smooth passage.
• Performing navigation tasks in varying weather conditions and sea states.
• Maintaining navigation equipment and up-to-date knowledge of local maritime laws.

What do you bring on board?

• You are a certified Deep Sea Pilot OR you are willing to obtain it through our internal training program. (To be admitted to the training program, you must have the 'Master of All Ships' certificate, a bachelor's degree, and a conformity certificate.)
• You have at least 4 years of experience as a captain.
• You are capable of building a good relationship with the bridge team in a relatively short time.
• You have extensive experience navigating large ships.
• You have strong decision-making abilities and excellent communication skills.
